Fluorite is probably my favorite of all gemstones, and that is saying a lot. It is sort of like trying to choose your favorite child, favorite pet, or favorite flower - it is really hard to do. But I have always been drawn to Fluorite and find myself coming back to it again and again in my designs. One of the things I love about having my own jewelry business is that I can talk about all the cool aspects of gemstones and share both the science AND the magic about them. Pure Fluorite is colorless. The colors that do occur come from minor impurities that are present as it crystalized. Purple is probably the most popular shade of Fluorite and it can be confused with Amethyst. However Fluorite is a much "softer" stone than Amethyst. Fluorite typically crystallizes in the shape of a cube or octahedral structure (think of the shape of 6-8 sided dice).
