Collection: Stone of the Month

The September stone of the month is Red Creek Jasper.

When I look at Red Creek Jasper stones, I am always in awe of the rich beauty and unique paintings in each stone. It was one of the first stones I ever worked with and has become a favorite of mine. Just holding the stones in my hand can help me feel calm and grounded. 

Red Creek Jasper is a multi-colored stone which comes in varying shades of red, green, yellow, orange, brown, and black. It is full of grounding Earth energy and can deeply connect one to the vibrations of the Earth, helping you to feel rooted and balanced physically and emotionally. Red Creek Jasper helps one find harmony of the mind and spirit. This stone mimics the colors of golden sunshine, poppy fields, rainforests, the undulating ocean, the red rocks of the Grand Canyon, to sweeping mountains, and night skies.

Red Creek Jasper is sometimes referred to as ‘the supreme nurturer’ and is useful during times of anxiety, stress, depression, or illness. It can also promote mental and intellectual stimulation as well as improve one’s organization skills and imagination.

Red Creek Jasper was only discovered recently in 2010. When searching for Turquoise, miners in mainland China came across this stone instead. Since its discovery, Red Creek Jasper has become an incredibly popular stone.

Red Creek Jasper, as with all Jaspers, is a member of the Chalcedony family. This means that it is a microcrystalline or cryptocrystalline quartz which can vary between being semi-transparent or opaque. In simpler words, Red Creek Jasper is formed from many small crystals rather than only one large one. 

The word ‘jasper’ is derived from the Old French ‘jaspre’ and the Latin ‘iaspidem’ which give it the meaning of “spotted or speckled stone”. Jasper itself has been revered throughout history and across the ancient world with its use dating back to 1800 B.C.
